Environment

Camping du Château is located in the heart of the Vosges Mountains. The Vosges is the southernmost department of the Lorraine, but also the name of the 170 km long mountain range that borders the Rhine Valley together with the Black Forest. This mountain range was created about 60 million years ago together with the Black Forest.

In the wooded area is extensive flora and fauna to be found. In addition to deer, wild boar, roe deer, foxes, badgers, chamois and squirrels, among others, about 150 species of birds live in this region.

When one talks about the Flora of the Vosges, the wild yellow daffodil - known here as 'jonquils' - cannot be missed. These jonquils are a symbol of the region as are the blueberries: 'myrtilles'.

The Vosges also has a number of beautiful lakes, namely: Lac Blanc, Lac Noir, Lac des Truites, Gérardmer, Longemer and Retournemer. At most of the water sports can be practiced. The Blanchemer is a unique remnant from the ice age. The beautiful waterfalls in the area are also worth a visit.

The mountains in the pre, high and postseason offer unlimited hiking opportunities in winter transformed into a true cross-country/ski area. More information about the Vosges climate and its four seasons can be found on this site.
